For more than three decades, Bevan and Laura Stein have followed God’s call to serve children, families, refugees, and people in crisis — from Slovakia, through war-torn Ukraine, to South Sudanese refugees in Uganda.
Bevan and Laura came to Slovakia as missionaries more than thirty years ago with a desire to serve wherever God opened the door. Over the years, that calling has taken many forms as they have responded to the needs of children, families, and communities around them. Today, their ministry continues through three distinct fields of service.
Soon after arriving in Slovakia, Bevan and Laura began serving children growing up in children’s homes and residential care facilities. Over time, their ministry reached children in thirteen different facilities.
They later founded Otcovo srdce — Father’s Heart, organized camps for children, and expanded their work to include hippotherapy, equine-assisted care, and ongoing support for children and families.
Since 2022, Bevan has made repeated trips into Ukraine, bringing practical humanitarian aid to people whose lives have been devastated by war. The assistance includes food, hygiene supplies, and “Boxes of Blessing.”
Yet the ministry is about more than meeting physical needs. Every journey also creates opportunities to pray with people, encourage them, share hope, and remind them that they have not been forgotten.
In Uganda, the mission serves South Sudanese refugees who have fled violence and are now working to rebuild their lives in refugee communities.
The ministry helps meet both immediate and long-term needs through food production, health care, education, support for women, and care for orphaned and vulnerable children — helping families move toward greater stability, dignity, and hope.
